This is so great. Thanks so much! Angela, what size does this end up to be and do you know the yardage required?

Kim:

The size (in inches, rather than age) of the sweater is as follows:

11.5" from neck seam to bottom hem
17" from wrist to wrist
9.5" across the back.

As for yardage, I can only estimate. The original skein had 550 yards and was 8 oz. The sweater was 4.5 oz, so approximately 310 yards were used. That weight includes the wooden buttons, though, so it'll be a little less.

Hope this helps,

Thanks so much Angela. Can't wait to get started. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fab Felted Bag! It's great for those teachers on my Christmas list. Perfect for toting all there papers back and forth.

Oh my god, please help me. I understand you had line-by-line instructions and tips. I am already stuck on the 7th row. I DO OWN THE PATTERN, PAID FOR IT IN TWO DIFFERENT EZ BOOKS. That's hopefully so you don't get into any trouble.

Can you please email me and help me out with some of my issues? I'd be very grateful.

hi! just wanted to say that i'm sorry you got that letter! i never saw the original post but if everyone CAN'T understand the copyrighted pattern and you've posted help to it, then well, maybe the pattern needs to be updated by schoolhouse? or they need to offer "free" help with it?

anyway, you rock. xo

I'm posting to say I appreciate your effort to help...and agree with other posters that they shouldn't be so sensitive to people 'clarifying' the pattern. I have bought it too and am just sitting here in a quandry trying to figure it out.

I found help elsewhere but saw a link here first, so you get props.

Hi Angela,

I have the BSJ pattern and notes, but I am still struggling to understand. Could you send me any clarification? Thank you!

Angela,

Could you email me? I have a question about BSJ. I bought Meg Swansons video with the pattern and even with the video I am struggling.

So sorry to see you were forced to take down your helpful notes. Well, the e-pattern is now $10 (not $3), and I'm so surprised because I have already spent $30 for the book, "The Opinionated Knitter" just to get the pattern only to find it not so clear. I've bought 100+ patterns online and have NEVER seen one that expensive. I really do feel they are just trying to take advantage of us which is a grave disservice to EZ's legacy, and now I'm soured on the whole thing.

I have the pattern but cannot understand it. Can someone please help with more detailed instructions? I am at instruction #7 "K31, sl 1, k2 tog...etc" and I am stumped for the rest of it. It looks like I am supposed to know things that I simply do not know. Why were the helpful notes removed? If you own the book, then surely it is okay to get help with the cryptic instructions? My email is annaknowlson@gmail.com Thanks so much!

I eventually figured out how to complete garment but at great cost - £3 for original pattern which confused me totally so I sent off to USA for row by row instructions which were 10 dollars, then I was charged another six dollars postage. I felt ripped off. I will not buy from these people again. If you need help then try You Tube.

I also bought the pattern, with the wool, at a knitting shop in a town I no longer am living in. In trying to check through the pattern before I start knitting I realize that these are not the usual kind of instructions.
What is a 'ridge'
And next, after 22 what'?
If I cast off 10 stitches from 152, how do I get to 158?
I'm afraid I just don't speak the right language to attempt this pattern. Can anyone help me?

Just leaving a note to say that I also have had a few struggles with this pattern that I purchased from Schoolhouse Press. I have emailed them and have had very fast responses from them with full clarifications of any questions I have had. Don't hesitate to email them with your questions. With that being said, I wish your notes were still available to read.

I do wish people wouldn't get so sensitive over a knitting pattern. surely people can help other people out in the knitting and crochet world, after all it's just a knitting pattern.
I do hope all you knitters found the help you needed. I've made the jacket several times, and started a new one last night, the first in over three years, so even I had to re read the pattern again and again. It isn't very clear. and a Ridge is two rows, your decrease and knit row. so 2 rows is one ridge, 10 rows is 5 ridges.

Too bad you had to take it down, because honestly, the one from School House Press is utterly confusing. No, I agree its not for a newbie knitter. but how long does it take to write out row by row instructions so that newbies CAN make this without hair pulling and gnashing of teeth. I ordered the book Opinionated Knitter, and the way she explains it makes sense to a seasoned knitter. I guess her work was only geared toward the veteran knitters and to heck with the newbies.

I too am sorry you had to take your explanations down.

I'm a very experienced knitter, I've made several BSJs, I own the printed pattern, EZ's books, and Meg's video. And STILL only way I can get through it is to follow the printed pattern and watch the video. It is confusing, mostly because you have no idea what you're making until you get well along in it.

I bought this pattern at a yarn shop and paid CDN22 for it. It is very poorly written and loaded with errors. I can’t believe that Schoolhouse Publishing wouldn’t have had an editor revise is appropriately before printing and selling it. The lady at the yarn shop warned me about the errors but nevertheless suspected I could figure them out. I am … slowly. But Holy Toledo! Perhaps the publisher could send me an appropriately revised one free of charge.

This pattern is poorly written beginning with row 1. The original instructions say to place markers at 34 and 125, then you knit 33 and are supposed to slip ktog then psso. Huh? This means the marker is in the middle of the decrease. No matter how many times I have attempted this, I've never ended up with 34, 86, 34 after completing R1. Schoolhouse Publishing is irrespondible. Every Ravelry designer will explain or edit his/her pattern. I think Baby Surprise Jacket should be taken off Ravelry.
